STORIES> NEWSPress Release: A Disc Version of the Marcelo Steel Frameset
8th October, 2024
Officina Pegoretti today released a disc version of its much-loved Marcelo Columbus steel frameset. The frame, which features the same Columbus LIFE tubing as the existing rim version, inherits dropouts from the brand’s other disc models, Round, Responsorium, and the recent Duende Rock & Roll, and accordingly, the same maximum tyre size of 32, measured.
“Marcelo, or MXXXXXO as we write it on the frame, where its name takes on a life of its own, was born for rim brakes,” explained Pegoretti’s Cristina Würdig. “But since we started introducing disc versions of our frames and disc-exclusive models like the Rock & Roll, the Pegoretti community has been asking for the same for Marcelo.”

As to why Pegoretti has introduced a disc version now, Pegoretti’s Pietro Pietricola explained that the brand first had to find a suitable treatment to ensure the long-term integrity of the frame. “Steel is very resilient, and a well-cared-for frame will last a lifetime. However, when a steel frame is built with disc brakes, an anti-oxidisation treatment both in and out is essential due to the use of internal cabling. Until now, we had not found a treatment that met our quality standards. Recently, though, we sourced and tested a new solution favoured by the automotive industry that has shown exceptional properties in far more challenging conditions than a bicycle frame is likely to experience. We treat the interior of the tubes with one formulation and the exterior beneath the paint primer with another. Together, the two treatments ensure Marcelo will stay in peak condition for many years.”
Away from technical standards, an update from Pegoretti wouldn’t be complete without a new visual element. To that end, Marcelo Disc launches with a graphic called ‘Fasoi’, inspired by a gift of beautifully packaged candies brought to the Officina by a Japanese partner and friend. “The calligraphy was so perfectly done, the colour of the packaging so emotive and balanced, that we decided to honour the gift by creating a new graphic to coincide with the launch of the Marcelo disc,” said Cristina. But how did they taste? “No comment!”
The MXXXXXO disc is available for order from October onwards.
